“Angie’s Shindig @ Neeta & James’s House, Longview, WA, USA”

After DJing for seven hours the day before (and having a great time), Mariah and I packed up our gear (my little, mobile DJ set-up), hit a coffee shop drive-thru, and got to our friends’, Neeta and James, house at about noon on Sunday, Aug. 12th, 2018… With some help packing junk (my back is SHOT), we made a makeshift DJ booth on the covered back porch on a “table” made out of an old door (I LOVE it!) Once the speakers were plugged in, we set about making some noise.

The occasion was ALMOST like a wedding reception for Angie, who is Neeta’s niece. Angie used to live in Longview, but has since moved to Seattle, where she met an ex-skater punk and, eventually, the two got married. (Like the jerk that I am, I never asked the “groom” his name, but we chatted for quite a while, and he seemed like a very nice fellow…) Because much of Angie’s family still lives in Longview, this SHINDIG was a kind of DELAYED RECEPTION, so that the older folks could come and give their congratulations. (You may notice a few cuts in the playlist below that were aimed at appeasing a slightly more gray-haired crowd. Gotta keep the customers entertained!)

The tone was very “PARTY!” with lots a food and drinks for all, people visiting and having a good time, a few hunter/gatherer parties going out into the wilds to collect blackberries, and a handful of folks who returned multiple times to the DJ booth to talk music. (That was pretty cool. I always love an opportunity to talk music…) I think it’s fair to say that a great time was had by all—possibly DESPITE my musical contributions! I was given free-reign by the “bride” to play pretty-much whatever I wanted, and I flexed my playlist privileges just a bit… Unlike the day before, however, I had plenty of requests at this event, and only had ONE that I couldn’t accommodate. (I don’t have the theme to Friends—because I hated that show, and the song makes me feel sick.) So, with all that said, let’s get to the playlist…

Several of the songs above were requests, particularly if you see a song from a band that I just played and then another song by the same band just a few cuts later. I was happy that this group was enthusiastic, and as I mentioned above, several folks stopped by the booth to chat about their favorite bands or cuts, or about some event that a particular song reminded them of. Overall, it was a fun day, and if Mariah and I hadn’t been so tired, we probably would have stayed later and kept rockin’ into the wee hours of the night—but as it was I did seven hours of DJing on Saturday, then about six and a half more on Sunday! Good times…good times…
