“Whirly Swirly Surely (and Don’t Call Me Shirley)” by Richard F. Yates

Whew! It’s been a crazy-ass week! Seeing and driving and playing and driving and listening and driving and driving and driving…

First, I finally got to see Ant-Man and the Wasp with Mariah about one week ago and found it to be pretty dang entertaining. Funny. I appreciate a superhero film that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and this movie was chock-full of visual puns, sight gags, and just interesting stuff to see. Don’t expect ANY physics to matter going in—(did you catch that “Dad Joke?”)—but if you can play along, the movie is a treat. (And congratulations to Abby Ryder Fortson, who plays Cassie, the Ant-Man’s daughter. She really grew into her role in this film and gives one of the most entertaining performances in the movie!)

In other news, I finally found gainful employment, hocking Halloween wares at a seasonal store (haven’t actually started yet, but I’m excited. I already asked if I’ll get an employee discount that I can use to buy a new black-light! Wooooo!) So pretty soon, we’ll be able to eat again! (A plus! In other other news, it’s possible that Richard F. Yates likes to lie and exaggerate and make shit up for humorous effect, according to an unnamed source, who shall remain nameless. Fake news?) And, in addition to gainful employment, I’ve also had my orientation to start tutoring through the Longview Public Library a couple of days a week. I like the idea of giving back to the community.

Next in the parade of craziness, we had our trip to the Oregon coast, which was fun, and for which I’ll be writing a bit of a post with lots of photos (of weird sights that I found interesting…) For that matter, there are quite a few things that I need to write about. (I’ve fallen behind because we’ve been out DOING stuff…) Here are some of the topics that I’ll be writing on in the next two or three days (if all goes well):

1. Beach Trip.
2. Adam Ant Concert (with The Fixx). (I almost called this post “Ants’ Invasion” because along with seeing Ant-Man and the Wasp and taking my Aunt Teresa to see Adam Ant in concert, we also have these little “sugar ants” wandering around in our kitchen looking for snacks…)
3. My horrible experiences as a “social justice warrior.”
4. The next chapter in the Sharkey story.
5. A slightly nebulous concept about perception based around the movie Curse of the Demon.
6. Gotta get back to working on the R.P.G.! (I’ve got a bit more research to do, but it’s still in the wings…)

There are probably some other things, but my head is still buzzing (and my ears still ringing) from the last week’s worth of exciting adventures!

Mariah and I also have to work on filling out our Washington State ballets for this mid-term election thingy. I’m returning to voting after an extended absence—having spent most of the last four decades thinking that politics were just a joke that only rich people had much control over, but I’ve reached the point were the joke really isn’t funny anymore, so I registered to vote again (first time in over ten years), and I’m going to make sure I put in my two-cents, especially in the local elections that decide things like whether school levies pass and if the library gets enough funding to stay open. That shit is important! ACT LOCAL!

Of possible interest to some folks, I’ve also started posting stories to MEDIUM, a site I’d heard about but hadn’t really explored. (With the death of StumbleUpon, I felt like I needed another outlet.) I’m using Medium to post written pieces, fiction, rants, travel pieces, and many things that most folks probably haven’t seen before, along with the pieces that I’ve also posted at The Primitive Entertainment Workshop. If you are a Medium user, or if you just want to read some freaky stuff (almost everything I write is quirked-out in some way), then you can find me at this place:

And I think that’s about all I’ve got to “say” at the moment. (“Say” is in quotes because I’m not actually talking—I’m typing…but you probably don’t care about that…) Keep your peepers pealed for lots of writing over the next few days! A reeva dirt cheap!!!
