“Storybooks” by Richard F. Yates

I don’t believe that the stories I read have to be historical fact in order for them to have useful and meaningful messages in them that can help me decide how to live. Nor do I believe that I have the right to tell anyone else that they must believe in MY storybooks and live how I live, and yet many people out there are trying to tell me I MUST believe in THEIR story and live the way their book tells them to. Am I wrong, or is that HORSESHIT? Live by your own storybook. That’s your right, and it’s protected by U.S. law, but don’t you fucking DARE try to make your storybook INTO law. That is EXACTLY what the First Amendment in the Constitution of the United States was meant to protect us from…
