“The Other Morning After” by Richard F. Yates

Well, another holiday has come and gone, and although I’m not particularly patriotic (I can’t help but feel that patriotism is a close cousin to racism), I still had a pretty good time with my family. On the 2nd, we went to Lake Sacajawea for the Cardboard Boat Regatta, which was pretty fun. On the 3rd, we bar-b-cued foods, and then blew off some fireworks!

And on the 4th, I wrote a political rant (what could be MORE patriotic than exercising my right to express my discontent with what the government is doing?), and THEN Mariah and I set up our “ART SALE” in the front yard once again. It was quite a bit slower this time than I expected, possibly because the weather wasn’t as warm and sunny as advertised, but sitting there for hours gave me plenty of time to draw some NEW stuff!!! In addition to getting more creative work done, we did manage to sell one painting and a t-shirt, and we also gave one t-shirt away to a little kid who REALLY wanted it but didn’t have any money. (I would rather have somebody ENJOYING my art without making any money on it, than make the kid go without just to stick the shirt back into the garage until the next sale…)

Like I said in my write-up on the boat races, I like to look for opportunities to have a good time, and over the last few days, we had several entertaining moments, but this holiday season was also tiring and expensive and not that great on my digestive system (pepperoni, ice-cream, elephant ears, chips, and so on eventually take their tolls, even though they taste GREAT going down!) Still, as one who is very aware of mortality, I absolutely believe it’s important to enjoy life while we can! (Gather ye rose-buds while ye may! Am I right???)

Another interesting occurrence, I submitted a drawing to an Ello artist call, “#STOPnipplecensorship Artist Invite,” and my drawing was accepted!

(I’m actually very surprised that my drawing got in, considering the tone of the OTHER works that have been accepted for the call. Most of the work is photographic in nature and kind of dark. My piece is more silly… Check out the link to the call, if you want to see what I mean—ALTHOUGH, the page might be a bit SHOCKING if you’re kinda uptight about nudity…) Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool that my work was accepted in a contest without me having to compromise my style! I’m just saying…

Aaaaand, that’s about it for now, I guess. Talk to you folks again pretty soon!
