“Swinging” by Richard F. Yates

If you should suddenly discover that this was it, your LAST DAY, would you feel like you went down swinging? Like you did enough? Listened to enough music? Read enough books? Wrote enough? Drew enough? Painted enough? Hugged and kissed enough?

Did you do what you could with what you had? Or did you spend most of your life waiting? Hoping and planning instead of doing? If this was IT, and you knew it, what would you do differently???

NOW, like RIGHT NOW, whatever you would do differently, whatever THAT IS—go do it. As much as it is possible, go do it, while you can…

I like to read, write, draw, listen to music, drink soda pop, and spend time with my family. I try to do these things every day. I feel like I’ve done some serious swinging…

I’m pushing forward. Time may be a sledge hammer, memory a sieve, and lifetime a puff of smoke, but I’m doing my best to blow smoke rings! A million of them, if I can, even if no one else can see them! (That’s what makes it ART…) I’m going down swinging…
