“Back to Work” by Richard F. Yates

So it’s the Monday after McMinnville. Seems like a good time to take perspective and see where we go from here. The next two weeks should be fairly quiet (good for getting work done), until the weekend of June 2nd and 3rd, when the younger daughter is participating in the WA State All-Stars Bowling Tournament (her second year on the women’s team for Triangle Bowl! I’ll try to get some photos and write a nice story about THAT event. I’m sure you folks will find it fascinating!) And, a couple of days BEFORE All-Stars, the older daughter turns 25!!! (Am I old enough to have a 25 year old kid?—And if so, why haven’t I learned how to DRAW yet???)

And that’s what’s coming up in “REAL LIFE.”

For the P.E.W., we’ve go LOTS of irons in the fire:

—You may have spotted a short story a week of or so ago called “Ambush,” (if not, read it HERE,) but what you might not have caught is that “Ambush” is only the first chapter in my new serialized adventure, called NEW PULP REVIVAL! It will be wacky, horrific fun. The next chapter is writing itself in my head as we speak and will be up and ready for consumption by SATURDAY, at the latest!

—I’ve also been working feverishly on editing a fictionalized account of an imaginary ART GROUP, who are attempting to promote creativity, equality, and individual freedom around the world, while fending off attacks by Big Pharma, insane androids, and a society that is so hypnotized by the Corporate Conspiracy that it is no longer able to appreciate a good joke! (GASP!) I’m hoping to have this book completed within the next few weeks!

—The READ A DAMN BOOK project is fast approaching the 100th review, and I’m reading a couple of different books at the moment that will get us to that MAGIC NUMBER! (At which time, I will compile a book of all the reviews! Yes—ANOTHER book…)

If I’ve learned anything from reading all those 60’s and 70’s comics that I’ve been reading lately, it’s that folks like Stan Lee and Roy Thomas and Steve Englehart wrote a LOT of different stories for different series, often all at the same time. Keeps you young, I think! Keeps the pen moving, anyway…

—I’m toying with the idea of rerunning my unfinished SHARKEY AND THE JABBERWOCK serialized adventure, editing it up to modern standards, and FINISHING it this time… I love that story (even if it is a bit EVIL,) and it bothers me that I let it drop without completing it!

—Still need to finish the COVER ART for the ALLEN TOMBES – FIRE FROM WATER novella, but other than that, it’s just about DONE! (Not sure why I’m dragging my feet on that one…)

—AND I’m still working on the Role Playing Game that Michael King and I started a few months ago—although I’ve recently found a book ABOUT RPGs written by Gary Gygax (one of the original creators of Dungeons & Dragons) that I want to read before I get to the point of SHARING what I’ve got for my game. (Learn from the BEST, I say!)

And that’s about it, at the moment. Feels like I’m being lazy lately, taking most of the weekend off to go hang out at a festival and such, but I’m back on task now and MOVING FORWARD (or UPWARD or DIGGING IN or whatever travel/movement/work metaphor you wanna use!) There you go…
