“However You Slice It…” by Richard F. Yates

The road is hard
and shouldn’t be used as a pillow.

Move along, move along…

Spiny ant-eaters go to the movies
instead of cleaning their rooms.

Move along, move along…

We’re always crippling our dreams
lest we be judged.

Move along, move along…

Stop in the name of love
before your overdue library books catch fire.

Move along, move along…

Massive fluxuations in the stock market
reflect the same image in a mirror as bad breath.

Move along, move along…

The lights in the sky
are probably not watching us.

Move along, move along…

Ethics can’t save you
from a stale bowl of cereal.

Now let THAT be a lesson to you!
