“Perception is Personal” by Richard F. Yates (and Mariah R. Yates)

Coming home yesterday after a long day. About dusk, not dark yet. As we roll slowly down the alley, just before turning into our driveway, a little creature bolts down the alley a few houses beyond ours then dives into some blackberry vines and disappears.

Mariah say, “Did you see that?” And I say, “The cat?” She says, “I thought it was a chicken!”

After laughing awhile, I decided it was probably a leprechaun. “They can take different shapes, you know,” as Darby O’Gill said…
