“One & the Same” by Scott Sparks

My own worst enemy is my best friend
Seeking a victory instead of resolving the argument
Past the point of capitulation
Though I grow weary of my own reflection
I’m not about to abandon my position
Regardless of how much of a wreck I am
To stand fast instead of breaking like pavement
Will that be what saves me?
At least my enemy is still my friend
Oppressed by my own obstinance over and over again
My best friend can be my own worst enemy
Whitewashing the words I’ll insouciantly continue to speak
Casting aspersions behind a façade
It doesn’t give me peace but I’ll say that it does
Call me callow; I don’t know what it means
Advice you try to offer is worthless seed
If I’ve failed to mention the main source of contention
My vision lacks the diction to veritably circumvent aggression
So what is the lesson?
I would say leave me be
My friend and my enemy are one and the same entity
