“Erasing the Past” by Richard F. Yates

So the renovations on The P.E.W. have begun. I’ve deleted somewhere around 40 posts (+/- a few—standard deviation) to try and make room for new posts (like this one.) I’ve kept several things that I can’t bear to part with, and I’ve reposted ALL of the posts at the following:

…even the ones that I don’t think are that funny any more.

Breaking up the past—erasing the past—has been hard. I always expected this site to be an archive, a sort of diary / art journal / museum, that could be looked at by future generations, who would then go: “That guy was weird.” (Wipes tear from eye…) I suppose some people will still think I’m weird, but not in the same way. Not in the same way…

Meanwhile, here’s a digital drawings I did last night:

erasing the past

So there you go. Support local artists when you can, so that the corporate, art/entertainment-by-committee world isn’t the only one that survives into the future. (There’s a depressing story, set in the “future,” about a guy who wants to be an artist, but only certain people are ALLOWED to make art in that society because it’s become a controlled field that only government appointed individuals can participate in—terrifying! I can’t remember if it was by Philip K. Dick or Robert Sheckly, but it’s really unsettling because of how plausible it is.)

Make stuff, even bad stuff. Especially bad stuff! Create things with your own hands from your own imagination, because some day you might not be able to!!!! PUNK ART! So bad that it’s awesome! And then send it to me. I’d love to see it.
