“Don’t Shoot!” by Richard F. Yates

Violence on both sides, my ass. I’m a liberal (some might say “hedonist” but we quibble over terms), and I know this: If one group is mostly pacifists and supporters of equal rights to all people, regardless of race, sex, religion, sexual orientation, or country of origin, and the other side is a bunch of fucking Nazis calling for the extermination of Jews, people of color, artists, liberals, “foreigners,” and the entire LGBTQ community, then the violence is coming from one side.
