“Mortar” by Scott Sparks

The mutiny inside of me coincides with society
At war with an enemy that’s done nothing except disagree
A riot is invited
Broken window type variety
Flattened tires slashing to conspire cut up impieties
Engaged in belligerence simply because everyone else is
Contesting that a single voice cannot induce igniting
A riot is their idol
On the mantel like a title
Stampedes such as these need not to breathe another vital
Surrounded with and crowded
I raise my gaze no longer clouded
Sitting at a table awaiting rations to be proud of
A riot is deliberate
Issued equal across environment
A brick might be the answer for those low in spirits they’ve collided with
Claimed corners where there are no such borders
Abhorred utterings of discourses distorted
Setting course for future riots in my rearview
Whether literal, visceral or allegoric to be avoided

—Scott Sparks
