“Demonic Forceps at Work” by Richard F. Yates*

Aaack ooop hack hick ackkk
Cat is trying to steal watermelon off the coffee table
Cat is a fuzzy thief!
Protect us from
The fur within

Wah weee whoaoaoaoa…
I’ve often purchased an inferior version
But brand names are essential
To ensure proper respect
From the microscopic community

Ooooga beebeebeebooo
Massive coagulation
Restricted digestion
Mellow out Mr. Whipple
It ain’t gonna break

Huh huh unnnh choo
What an awful day
The grass is shining
And the sun is green
And those fur bandits continue to swarm

Protect your food!
(Or they’ll come for you, next)
XXXsss Chchch…

—Richard F. Yates

[Though often attributed to Richard F. Yates, he was, in actuality, merely the TRANSCRIBER of this poem, which he overheard being sung by a drunken six-year-old in the parking-lot of a local supermarket…]
