“Mission Implodable” by Richard F. Yates

Magnetic feedback
During Instant Breakfast
Agent X
Killed by refrigerator
Rabid—with doors all a-swing

Twenty-three mice at the wake
Toasting with tiny tumblers
Full of gin and vermouth

The tape hisses and whirs
Then eats itself
For Breakfast

The mice clap and scuttle home
Now blind
Alcohol poisoning (supposedly)

—Richard F. Yates
