“Calms & Crescendos” by Scott Sparks

A storm can begin its intent real quiet
The eerie calm right before an ensuing riot
Lured into a false halcyon
Had it all planned, well in hand
Like a day in the sun
That is, until the serenity becomes simply all-too still
Nothing nearby or near enough to clutch
When the volume notches up from chill to shrill
What was once a hushed sequence
Has tormented me to pieces
This stentorian, uninvited is simply a crescendo needing defeated
So I no longer lose sleep over things that creep by
While the storm within me dwarfs the one outside
Making each day count instead of counting each day
The tempestuous, this obstreperous surrounding me
Reinvigorated my gait along the way
